We live in a society today where domestic and emotional abuse, sexual assault, trafficking and harassment, all against women, are the new normal. Where rape or any form of sexual violence against your wife is never considered a crime. Where you don't feel safe anymore, we don't feel safe anymore, even inside the comfort of our homes. Our bodies aren't really ours anymore, it's okay, a bit too okay to be violated.
I would hate to conclude that the world we find ourselves in today hates women, but unfortunately the statistics don't lie. About " 1 in 3 women and girls experience physical or sexual violence in their lifetime...". What an unsettling and disturbing statistic. The 1979 Convention for the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) was established to combat issues of this nature, but today, we're still consumed by all of it. Today, we still drown in crimes against the female population, and patriarchy has used its tape of silence to shut our mouths.
So today being the 25th of November is the international day for the elimination of violence against women. Today, we rip that tape off and let our voices be heard, we speak out to fight against the unimaginable horrors a lot of women go through. Its a day that we as women come together to say enough is enough! Its a day that we let it be known that all forms of violence against women must be eliminated. It is a day that we hold the hands of the victims amongst us, we comfort them and let them know that together we can ease the pain. We are letting the world know today that it is not okay. We demand the world to provide us with the same security that men have. The security of being able to move about freely without fear of being sexually abused, without being physically and psychologically abused. The UN Secretary-General António Guterres reiterated it clearly when he said "until the half of our population represented by women and girls can live free from fear, violence and everyday insecurity, can we truly say we live in a fair and equal world." So today, we stand united, against hateful actions, against lustful atrocities, against violence, for the woman, for the girl child, for humanity.

Women deserve respect at all cost, but sincerely speaking nowadays women are inviting problems upon themselves, as they are now living indecency life with men in the name of friendship, as such they become victims of any form of harassment be it sexually or morally, had it been women will desist form selling themselves out to men thorough their dress and other means of attraction they will be safe from any form of violence, but I'm speaking regarding our culture as Hausa Fulani and Muslim by religion.
